University Lecturer in Political Science

The subject of political science at Dalarna University (HDa) has a broad course offering at various levels of undergraduate education and research in areas such as democratization, public administration, civil society, political participation, and comparative politics. Political science has the right to award master’s degrees and is offered as course packages, standalone courses, and within the framework of the Social Science Program and the Master’s Program in Democracy, Citizenship, and Change. The large student groups are primarily found in the online courses in political science, where significant efforts are made to create a distance education of the highest quality.

Your Workday as a University Lecturer

The duties include teaching and supervision/examination as well as possibly course responsibility at both undergraduate and advanced levels. Dalarna University profiles itself in e-learning, and the teaching assignments include teaching through the web-based tools provided by the university. Most of the teaching is conducted online, primarily in Swedish and to some extent in English. Some on-campus teaching may occur.

According to the Higher Education Ordinance and Employment Regulations, a person is eligible for appointment as a lecturer in areas other than artistic activities if they have demonstrated pedagogical skills, have obtained a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence, or possess other professional skills that are relevant to the subject matter of the position and the tasks included in the employment.

For this position, the following is also required

• Doctoral degree in political science or equivalent,
• Documented ability to teach in Swedish and English,
• Documented ability to collaborate and a high degree of responsibility.

It is advantageous if you

• have experience in teaching various areas of political science,
• have experience in course and program development,
• have experience in distance education.

When hiring a university lecturer, collaboration skills and responsibility for a good working environment are required. It is also necessary that you are development-oriented and take responsibility and initiative for the overall subject group.

Assessment Criteria

The university will consider the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment of scientific and pedagogical skills as well as other qualifications relevant to the position, is deemed to have the best conditions to fulfill the duties of the position.

Equal care will be given to the assessment of pedagogical skills as to scientific skills according to HF chapter 4. A pedagogical test may be applied.

The Position

The position is a fixed-term employment, working degree 50-100%, starting from 2026-08-15 to 2027-08-14, or as agreed. Dalarna University operates in two locations. The place of employment for this position is Borlänge, but some work may also occur in Falun.
